St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane Celebrates Assumption of St. Mary with Holy Qurbana and Special Prayers
On the evening of 14th August 2025, the faithful at St. George Indian Orthodox Church in Brisbane gathered to celebrate the feast of the Assumption of St. Mary, a pivotal event in Orthodox Christian tradition. The evening began with a solemn Holy Qurbana, led by the Vicar, Rev. Fr. Anish Mathew. The congregation participated in a spiritually uplifting service, honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary and reflecting on her role as the Mother of God.
Following the Holy Qurbana, the Vicar led a special intercessory prayer to St. Mary, seeking her blessings and intercession for the faithful. This prayer was a moment of deep devotion and reverence, as the congregation offered their supplications, invoking the Virgin Mary's guidance and protection.
In addition to the prayers, the event also included the traditional Vazhavu (offering of a special blessing), which is an integral part of the celebrations in the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. This moment was a mark of devotion and gratitude, as the community united in worship and thanksgiving.
The evening's service highlighted the deep faith and unity of the community at St. George Indian Orthodox Church, as they marked one of the most significant feasts of the Orthodox calendar.
