Day 3 of OVBS 2024 at St. George Indian Orthodox Church – Faith, Fun, and Fellowship

The third day of the Orthodox Vacation Bible School (OVBS) at St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane, continued to deliver a fulfilling mix of faith, fun, and fellowship. The theme of the day was set in vibrant green, symbolizing growth and renewal, and the activities echoed these sentiments as the children engaged in spiritual and joyful sessions that deepened their learning and connections.

The day commenced with Prayer and Announcements, which set a reflective and spiritual tone for the morning. The children gathered with a sense of excitement, looking forward to the day’s events, as prayers focused on thanksgiving and guidance for the day ahead.

A key highlight was the Motivational Talk delivered by Rev. Fr. Liju Samuel, the vicar of the church. His heartfelt message focused on living a life centered around faith and humility, encouraging the children to trust in God’s plan while navigating life's challenges. Fr. Liju drew from personal experiences and Biblical teachings, reminding the children to hold on to their spiritual values and to stay grounded in their faith as they grow.

His words deeply resonated with both children and volunteers, inspiring them to continue their journey with a focus on spirituality and faith, helping them build a strong foundation for the future.

After the motivational talk, the children took part in Bible Class, where they explored scripture in an interactive and engaging manner. The class allowed participants to delve deeper into Biblical stories, drawing lessons about perseverance, kindness, and God's unconditional love. The discussions and activities helped make the teachings relatable and understandable for the young participants.

The children and volunteers enjoyed a delicious morning tea, which consisted of chicken nuggets and spring rolls. The well-prepared snacks, served by the hardworking volunteers, were a hit among the children, providing them with a tasty and energizing break before the next round of activities.

Post-refreshments, the children were immersed in a lively Interactive Session led by Silpa Kochamma. Known for her engaging teaching style, Silpa Kochamma made learning fun by organizing Bible-based games that not only reinforced the teachings from scripture but also allowed the children to express themselves creatively.

A major part of the session was the Bible Trivia Challenge, where children answered questions based on stories and lessons they had learned throughout the week. The friendly competition promoted teamwork and sharpened their Biblical knowledge. Silpa also led the group in singing Christian hymns, adding a spiritual and joyful rhythm to the interactive session. Her ability to blend learning with play ensured that the children were both spiritually nourished and entertained.

The day continued with Song Revision, where the children rehearsed the hymns they had learned, in preparation for their upcoming Valedictory Function. The rehearsal allowed the children to fine-tune their performances, ensuring they would be ready for the final presentation.

This was followed by a high-energy Zumba session, which brought a burst of excitement and fun to the afternoon. The children, along with some enthusiastic volunteers, danced to lively music, enjoying the physical activity while bonding with their peers. The Zumba session was not only fun but also a refreshing break from the more focused activities of the day.

After Zumba, the children engaged in various games that fostered team spirit and allowed them to enjoy some light-hearted competition. These games helped strengthen their friendships and created a sense of unity within the group.

For lunch, the children and volunteers were treated to a classic meal of sausages with bread, which was appreciated by all. The simple yet hearty meal was the perfect way to refuel after a busy and active morning, keeping everyone energized for the final session of the day.

The afternoon was dedicated to practicing for the Valedictory Function, scheduled for the final day of OVBS. The children rehearsed their songs, skits, and presentations, fine-tuning every detail to ensure a polished performance. There was a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation in the air as everyone prepared for the big event, which would showcase all they had learned over the past few days.

The success of Day 3, like the previous days, was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the volunteers. From serving meals to organizing activities and guiding the children, the volunteers played a pivotal role in ensuring the day ran smoothly.
