OVBS 2024 Day 1 at St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane | 120 Students Kick Off with Enthusiasm

The 2024 Orthodox Vacation Bible School (OVBS) at St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane, commenced on September 19 with great joy and excitement. The four-day event, centered around the theme "Let Us Pray" from Luke 11:1, saw the participation of 120 enthusiastic students, all eager to learn and grow in their spiritual journey.
The day began with a grand flag hoisting ceremony, led by Vicar Rev. Fr. Liju Samuel, symbolizing the start of this much-awaited event. The lighting of the lamp followed, performed by Rev. Fr. Liju Samuel alongside the OVBS coordinators Merlin and Saumya, symbolizing the light of Christ shining upon the students as they embarked on this journey.
A highlight of the day was the inspiring motivational speech delivered by Fr. Johny Edapulavan CMI, Parish Priest of St. Peter's Catholic Parish, Rochedale. His words resonated with the children, urging them to cultivate a deep personal connection with God through prayer and reflection. His message left a lasting impact, setting the spiritual tone for the rest of the program.
Throughout the day, the children participated in lively song sessions, engaging Bible classes, and hands-on activities, including pot painting and planting, which beautifully connected creativity with the spiritual theme of nurturing faith. The students were also delighted to enjoy a tasty morning tea featuring cake, chips, fruit, and juice, and a hearty lunch of burgers and chips, ensuring they were refreshed and energized for the day’s activities.
A key component of the day’s success was the dedicated efforts of volunteers and parents, many of whom came forward to assist with organizing activities, preparing meals, and managing logistics. Their support was instrumental in ensuring the smooth flow of events, and their presence added to the warmth and community spirit of the OVBS. The joint efforts of parents, volunteers, and the organizing team ensured that the day was memorable for every child present.
Additionally, Sunday School Headmaster Jithin Thomas took an active role in leading the day's activities, ensuring everything was well-coordinated and that the children remained engaged and enthusiastic throughout.
With the blessings of Rev. Fr. Liju Samuel, the guidance of Fr. Johny Edapulavan, and the support from the OVBS team, volunteers, and parents, Day 1 of OVBS 2024 was a tremendous success. The children eagerly look forward to Day 2, filled with more learning, fun, and fellowship.
Entrusting the upcoming days into the mighty hands of the Lord God Almighty, we look forward to the continued blessings and spiritual growth for all who participate in OVBS 2024.
