Procession for the Assumption of St Mary – St George Indian Orthodox Church Brisbane | 17 August 2025
Brisbane, 17 August 2025 – The faithful of the St George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane, gathered in devotion to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of St Mary, one of the most significant feasts in the Orthodox liturgical calendar.
The celebration began with the Holy Qurbana, followed by a solemn procession around the church premises, led by the parish Vicar, Rev. Fr. Anish Mathew. Clergy, altar assistants, choir members, and the faithful joined together in prayer, hymns, and reverence, honouring the blessed intercessions of St Mary, the Mother of God.
The colourful procession, with the faithful carrying lighted candles, traditional prayers, and spiritual chants, reflected the deep faith and unity of the community. Parish members, young and old alike, participated with devotion, making the event a true expression of love and commitment to the Orthodox tradition.
Speaking at the event, Rev. Fr. Anish Mathew emphasised the importance of the feast, reminding the congregation of St Mary’s life of humility, obedience, and faith. He encouraged the faithful to draw inspiration from her life and strengthen their commitment to Christ through prayer and service.
The day concluded with a community gathering and fellowship, where parishioners shared in joy, unity, and thanksgiving.
