Special Father’s Day Speech by Sunil Abraham | St George Indian Orthodox Church Brisbane

Special Father’s Day Speech by Sunil Abraham | St George Indian Orthodox Church Brisbane
📰 Special Father’s Day Speech by Sunil Abraham at St George Indian Orthodox Church Brisbane

Brisbane, 7 September 2025 – The congregation at St George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane, was blessed with an inspiring message by Sunil Abraham, a well-known and respected speaker within the church community. The special address took place during the Holy Qurbana on Father’s Day, making the occasion even more meaningful.

Sunil began by sharing that this message was dedicated especially to the children, reminding them that Father’s Day is a time to reflect not only on our earthly fathers but also on our Heavenly Father. He engaged the young ones with a simple question: “What makes your father happy when you do something?” The children responded with answers such as obedience, which Sunil highlighted as a key value in Christian living.

He reminded the congregation that Father’s Day is not limited to celebrating biological fathers, but also recognising and honouring our Lord Father. Sunil emphasised that retaliation is not the Christian way — instead, we are called to place everything into God’s hands, forgive, and even love our enemies.

Drawing from today’s scripture reading, St. Matthew 5:38-48, he reflected on Jesus’ teaching:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’
But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.”

Sunil encouraged everyone to be both loving and wise — turning the other cheek while also being careful and discerning in life’s challenges.

At the conclusion of the service, Vicar Rev. Fr. Anish Mathew expressed his appreciation for Sunil’s meaningful message, thanking him for inspiring the congregation and encouraging the children to live in obedience and faith.

This heartfelt speech left a lasting impression on both children and adults, reminding everyone that Father’s Day is a time to honour not only fathers on earth, but also our Heavenly Father, through lives of love, forgiveness, and devotion.
