³⁸As they went on their way, he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

³⁹She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word.

⁴⁰But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she came up to him, and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister left me to serve alone? Ask her therefore to help me.”

⁴¹Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,

⁴²but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

³⁸പിന്നെ അവർ യാത്രപോകയിൽ അവൻ ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ എത്തി; മാർത്താ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു സ്ത്രീ അവനെ വീട്ടിൽ കൈക്കൊണ്ടു.

¹Soon afterwards, he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of God’s Kingdom. With him were the twelve,

²and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out;

³and Joanna, the wife of Chuzas, Herod’s steward; Susanna; and many others who served them from their possessions.

¹അനന്തരം അവൻ ദൈവരാജ്യം പ്രസംഗിച്ചും സുവിശേഷിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു പട്ടണംതോറും സഞ്ചരിച്ചു.

⁴Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, judged Israel at that time.

⁵She lived under Deborah’s palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

⁶She sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh Naphtali, and said to him, “Hasn’t Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded, ‘Go and lead the way to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

⁷I will draw to you, to the river Kishon, Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand.’ ”

⁸Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.”

⁹She said, “I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the journey that you take won’t be for your honor; for Yahweh will sell Sisera into a woman’s hand.” Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

¹⁰Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh. Ten thousand men followed him; and Deborah went up with him.

¹¹Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the children of Hobab, Moses’ brother-in-law, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.

¹²They told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor.

¹³Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles, to the river Kishon.

¹⁴Deborah said to Barak, “Go; for this is the day in which Yahweh has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t Yahweh gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

¹⁵Yahweh confused Sisera, all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak. Sisera abandoned his chariot and fled away on his feet.

¹⁶But Barak pursued the chariots and the army to Harosheth of the Gentiles; and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword. There was not a man left.

⁴ആ കാലത്തു ലപ്പീദോത്തിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ദെബോരാ എന്ന പ്രവാചകി യിസ്രായേലിൽ ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

¹¹എന്നാൽ കേന്യനായ ഹേബെർ മോശെയുടെ അളിയൻ ഹോബാബിന്റെ മക്കളായ കേന്യരെ വിട്ടുപിരിഞ്ഞു കേദെശിന്നരികെയുള്ള സാനന്നീമിലെ കരുവേലകംവരെ കൂടാരം അടിച്ചിരുന്നു.

¹⁴അപ്പോൾ ദെബോരാ ബാരാക്കിനോടു: പുറപ്പെട്ടുചെല്ലുക; യഹോവ ഇന്നു സീസെരയെ നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവ നിനക്കു മുമ്പായി പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ബാരാക്കും അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ പതിനായിരംപേരും താബോർപർവ്വതത്തിൽ നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു,

¹⁵യഹോവ സീസെരയെയും അവന്റെ സകലരഥങ്ങളെയും സൈന്യത്തെയും ബാരാക്കിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ തോല്പിച്ചു; സീസെരാ രഥത്തിൽനിന്നു ഇറങ്ങി കാൽനടയായി ഔടിപ്പോയി.

¹⁶ബാരാൿ രഥങ്ങളെയും സൈന്യത്തെയും ജാതികളുടെ ഹരോശെത്ത്വരെ ഔടിച്ചു സീസെരയുടെ സൈന്യമൊക്കെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ വീണു; ഒരുത്തനും ശേഷിച്ചില്ല.

¹Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria; he was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.

²The Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little girl, and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

³She said to her mistress, “I wish that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy.”

⁴Someone went in and told his lord, saying, “The girl who is from the land of Israel said this.”

⁵The king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”

¹അരാംരാജാവിന്റെ സേനാപതിയായ നയമാൻ മുഖാന്തരം യഹോവ അരാമിന്നു ജയം നല്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ യജമാനൻ അവനെ മഹാനും മാന്യനും ആയി എണ്ണി; അവൻ പരാക്രമശാലി എങ്കിലും കുഷ്ഠരോഗി ആയിരുന്നു.

⁴അവൻ ചെന്നു തന്റെ യജമാനനോടു: യിസ്രായേൽദേശക്കാരത്തിയായ പെൺകുട്ടി ഇന്നിന്നപ്രകാരം സംസാരിച്ചു എന്നു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

⁵നീ പോയി വരിക; ഞാൻ യിസ്രായേൽരാജാവിന്നു ഒരു എഴുത്തു തരാം എന്നു അരാംരാജാവു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവൻ പത്തു താലന്തു വെള്ളിയും ആറായിരം ശേക്കെൽ പൊന്നും പത്തു കൂട്ടം വസ്ത്രവും എടുത്തു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

¹Every wise woman builds her house,

²He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh,

³The fool’s talk brings a rod to his back,

⁴Where no oxen are, the crib is clean,

⁵A truthful witness will not lie,

⁶A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn’t find it,

⁷Stay away from a foolish man,

⁸The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way,

⁹Fools mock at making atonement for sins,

¹⁰The heart knows its own bitterness and joy;

¹¹The house of the wicked will be overthrown,

¹²There is a way which seems right to a man,

¹³Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful,

¹⁴The unfaithful will be repaid for his own ways;

¹⁵A simple man believes everything,

¹⁶A wise man fears and shuns evil,

¹⁷He who is quick to become angry will commit folly,

¹⁸The simple inherit folly,

¹⁹The evil bow down before the good,

⁴കാളകൾ ഇല്ലാത്തെടത്തു തൊഴുത്തു വെടിപ്പുള്ളതു; കാളയുടെ ശക്തികൊണ്ടോ വളരെ ആദായം ഉണ്ടു.

⁵വിശ്വസ്തസാക്ഷി ഭോഷകു പറകയില്ല; കള്ളസ്സാക്ഷിയോ ഭോഷകു നിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.

⁶പരിഹാസി ജ്ഞാനം അന്വേഷിച്ചിട്ടും കണ്ടെത്തുന്നില്ല; വിവേകമുള്ളവന്നോ പരിജ്ഞാനം എളുപ്പം.

⁷മൂഢന്റെ മുമ്പിൽനിന്നു മാറിപ്പോക; പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ള അധരങ്ങൾ നീ അവനിൽ കാണുകയില്ല.

⁸വഴി തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നതു വിവേകിയുടെ ജ്ഞാനം; ചതിക്കുന്നതോ ഭോഷന്മാരുടെ ഭോഷത്വം.

⁹ഭോഷന്മാരെ അകൃത്യയാഗം പരിഹസിക്കുന്നു. നേരുള്ളവർക്കോ തമ്മിൽ പ്രീതി ഉണ്ടു.

¹⁰ഹൃദയം സ്വന്തദുഃഖത്തെ അറിയുന്നു; അതിന്റെ സന്തോഷത്തിലും അന്യൻ ഇടപെടുന്നില്ല.

¹¹ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ വീടു മുടിഞ്ഞുപോകും; നീതിമാന്റെ കൂടാരമോ തഴെക്കും.

¹²ചിലപ്പോൾ ഒരു വഴി മനുഷ്യന്നു ചൊവ്വായി തോന്നും; അതിന്റെ അവസാനമോ മരണവഴികൾ അത്രേ.

¹³ചിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നേയും ഹൃദയം ദുഃഖിച്ചിരിക്കാം; സന്തോഷത്തിന്റെ അവസാനം ദുഃഖമാകയുമാം.

¹⁴ഹൃദയത്തിൽ വിശ്വാസത്യാഗമുള്ളവന്നു തന്റെ നടപ്പിൽ മടുപ്പുവരും; നല്ല മനുഷ്യനോ തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയാൽ തന്നേ തൃപ്തിവരും.

¹⁵അല്പബുദ്ധി ഏതു വാക്കും വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു; സൂക്ഷ്മബുദ്ധിയോ തന്റെ നടപ്പു സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു.

¹⁶ജ്ഞാനി ഭയപ്പെട്ടു ദോഷം അകറ്റിനടക്കുന്നു; ഭോഷനോ ധിക്കാരംപൂണ്ടു നിർഭയനായി നടക്കുന്നു.

¹⁷മുൻ കോപി ഭോഷത്വം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. ദുരുപായി ദ്വേഷിക്കപ്പെടും.

¹⁸അല്പബുദ്ധികൾ ഭോഷത്വം അവകാശമാക്കിക്കൊള്ളുന്നു; സൂക്ഷ്മബുദ്ധികളോ പരിജ്ഞാനം അണിയുന്നു.

¹⁹ദുർജ്ജനം സജ്ജനത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിലും ദുഷ്ടന്മാർ നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ വാതിൽക്കലും വണങ്ങിനിലക്കുന്നു.

¹In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word,

²seeing your pure behavior in fear.

³Let your beauty come not from the outward adorning of braiding your hair, and of wearing gold ornaments or of putting on fine clothing,

⁴but from the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight.

⁵For this is how in the past the holy women who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands.

⁶So Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are if you do well and are not put in fear by any terror.

⁷You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as also being joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

¹ഭാർയ്യമാരേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭർത്താക്കന്മാർക്കും കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിപ്പിൻ ; അവരിൽ വല്ലവരും വചനം അനുസരിക്കാത്തപക്ഷം ഭയത്തോടുകൂടിയ നിങ്ങളുടെ നിർമ്മലമായ നടപ്പു കണ്ടറിഞ്ഞു

²വചനം കൂടാതെ ഭാര്യമാരുടെ നടപ്പിനാൽ ചേർന്നുവരുവാൻ ഇടയാകും.

³നിങ്ങളുടെ അലങ്കാരം തലമുടി പിന്നുന്നതും പൊന്നണിയുന്നതും വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്കുന്നതും ഇങ്ങനെ പുറമേയുള്ളതല്ല,

⁴സൗമ്യതയും സാവധാനതയുമുള്ള മനസ്സു എന്ന അക്ഷയഭൂഷണമായ ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ ഗൂഢമനുഷ്യൻ തന്നേ ആയിരിക്കേണം; അതു ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ വിലയേറിയതാകുന്നു.

⁵ഇങ്ങനെയല്ലോ പണ്ടു ദൈവത്തിൽ പ്രത്യാശവെച്ചിരുന്ന വിശുദ്ധസ്ത്രീകൾ തങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ അലങ്കരിച്ചു ഭർത്താക്കന്മാർക്കും കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിരുന്നതു.

⁶അങ്ങനെ സാറാ അബ്രാഹാമിനെ യജമാനൻ എന്നു വിളിച്ചു അനുസരിച്ചിരുന്നു; നന്മ ചെയ്തു യാതൊരു ഭീഷണിയും പേടിക്കാതിരുന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ അവളുടെ മക്കൾ ആയിത്തീർന്നു.

⁷അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ഭർത്താക്കന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാർത്ഥനെക്കു മുടക്കം വരാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു വിവേകത്തോടെ ഭാര്യമാരോടുകൂടെ വസിച്ചു, സ്ത്രീജനം ബലഹീനപാത്രം എന്നും അവർ ജീവന്റെ കൃപെക്കു കൂട്ടവകാശികൾ എന്നും ഔർത്തു അവർക്കും ബഹുമാനം കൊടുപ്പിൻ .

³⁹Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah,

⁴⁰and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

⁴¹When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

⁴²She called out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

⁴³Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

⁴⁴For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!

⁴⁵Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”

⁴⁶Mary said,

⁴⁷My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,

⁴⁸for he has looked at the humble state of his servant.

⁴⁹For he who is mighty has done great things for me.

⁵⁰His mercy is for generations and generations on those who fear him.

⁵¹He has shown strength with his arm.

⁵²He has put down princes from their thrones,

⁵³He has filled the hungry with good things.

⁵⁴He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy,

⁵⁵as he spoke to our fathers,

⁵⁶Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her house.

³⁹ആ നാളുകളിൽ മറിയ എഴുന്നേറ്റു മല നാട്ടിൽ ഒരു യെഹൂദ്യപട്ടണത്തിൽ ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു,

⁴³എന്റെ കർത്താവിന്റെ മാതാവു എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്ന മാനം എനിക്കു എവിടെ നിന്നു ഉണ്ടായി.

⁴⁴നിന്റെ വന്ദനസ്വരം എന്റെ ചെവിയിൽ വീണപ്പോൾ പിള്ള എന്റെ ഗർഭത്തിൽ ആനന്ദം കൊണ്ടു തുള്ളി.

⁴⁵കർത്താവു തന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതിന്നു നിവൃത്തിയുണ്ടാകും എന്നു വിശ്വസിച്ചവൾ ഭാഗ്യവതി.

⁴⁶അപ്പോൾ മറിയ പറഞ്ഞതു: “എന്റെ ഉള്ളം കർത്താവിനെ മഹിമപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു;

⁴⁷എന്റെ ആത്മാവു എന്റെ രക്ഷിതാവായ ദൈവത്തിൽ ഉല്ലസിക്കുന്നു.

⁴⁸അവൻ തന്റെ ദാസിയുടെ താഴ്ച കടാക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; ഇന്നുമുതൽ എല്ലാ തലമുറകളും എന്നെ ഭാഗ്യവതി എന്നു വാഴ്ത്തും.

⁴⁹ശക്തനായവൻ എനിക്കു വലിയവ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

⁵⁰അവനെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നവർക്കും അവന്റെ കരുണ തലമുറതലമുറയോളം ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

⁵¹തന്റെ ഭുജംകൊണ്ടു അവൻ ബലം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു, ഹൃദയവിചാരത്തിൽ അഹങ്കരിക്കുന്നവരെ ചിതറിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

⁵²പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെ സിംഹാസനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നു ഇറക്കി താണവരെ ഉയർത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

⁵³വിശന്നിരിക്കുന്നവരെ നന്മകളാൽ നിറെച്ചു, സമ്പന്നന്മാരെ വെറുതെ അയച്ചു കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

⁵⁴നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുപോലെ അബ്രാഹാമിന്നും അവന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും എന്നേക്കും കരുണ ഔർക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു,

⁵⁵തന്റെ ദാസനായ യിസ്രായേലിനെ തുണെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”

⁵⁶മറിയ ഏകദേശം മൂന്നു മാസം അവളോടു കൂടെ പാർത്തിട്ടു വീട്ടിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.
