Coming Sunday's Readings

¹¹Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.

¹²From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

¹³For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

¹⁴If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.

¹⁵He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁶“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions

¹⁷and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’

¹⁸For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’

¹⁹The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”

¹¹സത്രീകളിൽ നിന്നു ജനിച്ചവരിൽ യോഹന്നാൻ സ്നാപകനെക്കാൾ വലിയവൻ ആരും എഴുന്നേറ്റിട്ടില്ല; സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയവനോ അവനിലും വലിയവൻ എന്നു ഞാൻ സത്യമായിട്ടു നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

¹²യോഹന്നാൻ സ്നാപകന്റെ നാളുകൾ മുതൽ ഇന്നേവരെ സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യത്തെ ബലാൽക്കാരം ചെയ്യുന്നു; ബലാൽക്കാരികൾ അതിനെ പിടിച്ചടക്കുന്നു.

¹³സകല പ്രവാചകന്മാരും ന്യായപ്രമാണവും യോഹന്നാൻ വരെ പ്രവചിച്ചു.

¹⁴നിങ്ങൾക്കു പരിഗ്രഹിപ്പാൻ മനസ്സുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ വരുവാനുള്ള ഏലിയാവു അവൻ തന്നേ.

¹⁵കേൾപ്പാൻ ചെവിയുള്ളവർ കേൾക്കട്ടെ.

¹⁶എന്നാൽ ഈ തലമുറയെ ഏതിനോടു ഉപമിക്കേണ്ടു? ചന്തസ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ ഇരുന്നു ചങ്ങാതികളോടു:

¹⁷ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങൾക്കായി കുഴലൂതി, നിങ്ങൾ നൃത്തംചെയ്തില്ല; ഞങ്ങൾ വിലാപം പാടി, നിങ്ങൾ മാറത്തടിച്ചില്ല; എന്നു വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്ന കുട്ടികളോടു അതു തുല്യം.

¹⁸യോഹന്നാൻ തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യാത്തവനായി വന്നു; അവന്നു ഭൂതമുണ്ടെന്നു അവർ പറയുന്നു.

¹⁹മുനഷ്യപുത്രൻ തിന്നും കുടിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു വന്നു; തിന്നിയും കുടിയനുമായ മനുഷ്യൻ; ചുങ്കക്കാരുടെയും പാപികളുടെയും സ്നേഹിതൻ എന്നു അവർ പറയുന്നു; ജ്ഞാനമോ തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളാൽ നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.”

¹³They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them.

¹⁴But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.

¹⁵Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”

¹⁶He took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

¹³അവൻ തൊടേണ്ടതിന്നു ചിലർ ശിശുക്കളെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; ശിഷ്യന്മാരോ അവരെ ശാസിച്ചു.

¹⁴യേശു അതു കണ്ടാറെ മുഷിഞ്ഞു അവരോടു: ശിശുക്കളെ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുവാൻ വിടുവിൻ ; അവരെ തടുക്കരുതു; ദൈവരാജ്യം ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ളവരുടെതല്ലോ.

¹⁵ദൈവരാജ്യത്തെ ശിശു എന്നപോലെ കൈക്കൊള്ളാത്തവൻ ആരും ഒരുനാളും അതിൽ കടക്കയില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ സത്യമായിട്ടു നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁶പിന്നെ അവൻ അവരെ അണെച്ചു അവരുടെ മേൽ കൈ വെച്ചു, അവരെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

¹Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahweh did to Sarah as he had spoken.

²Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

³Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

⁴Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

⁵Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

⁶Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”

⁷She said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

⁸The child grew and was weaned. Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

⁹Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

¹⁰Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this servant and her son! For the son of this servant will not be heir with my son, Isaac.”

¹¹The thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight on account of his son.

¹²God said to Abraham, “Don’t let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your servant. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For your offspring will be named through Isaac.

¹³I will also make a nation of the son of the servant, because he is your child.”

¹⁴Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a container of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

¹⁵The water in the container was spent, and she put the child under one of the shrubs.

¹⁶She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, “Don’t let me see the death of the child.” She sat opposite him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

¹⁷God heard the voice of the boy.

¹⁸Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him with your hand. For I will make him a great nation.”

¹⁹God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the container with water, and gave the boy a drink.

²⁰God was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness, and as he grew up, he became an archer.

²¹He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother got a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

¹അനന്തരം യഹോവ താൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരുന്നതുപോലെ സാറയെ സന്ദർശിച്ചു; താൻ വാഗ്ദത്തം ചെയ്തിരുന്നതു യഹോവ സാറെക്കു നിവൃത്തിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു.

²അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ വാർദ്ധക്യത്തിൽ ദൈവം അവനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരുന്ന അവധിക്കു സാറാ ഗർഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

³സാറാ അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച മകന്നു അവൻ യിസ്ഹാൿ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

⁴ദൈവം അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു കല്പിച്ചിരുന്നതുപോലെ അവൻ തന്റെ മകനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്നു എട്ടാം ദിവസം പരിച്ഛേദന കഴിച്ചു.

⁵തന്റെ മകനായ യിസ്ഹാൿ ജനിച്ചപ്പോൾ അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു നൂറു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു.

⁶ദൈവം എനിക്കു ചിരിയുണ്ടാക്കി; കേൾക്കുന്നവരെല്ലാം എന്നെച്ചൊല്ലി ചിരിക്കും എന്നു സാറാ പറഞ്ഞു.

⁷സാറാ മക്കൾക്കു മുലകൊടുക്കുമെന്നു അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു ആർ പറയുമായിരുന്നു. അവന്റെ വാർദ്ധക്യത്തിലല്ലോ ഞാൻ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചതു എന്നും അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു.

⁸പൈതൽ വളർന്നു മുലകുടി മാറി; യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറിയ നാളിൽ അബ്രാഹാം ഒരു വലിയ വിരുന്നു കഴിച്ചു.

⁹മിസ്രയീമ്യദാസി ഹാഗാർ അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച മകൻ പരിഹാസി എന്നു സാറാ കണ്ടു അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു:

¹⁰ഈ ദാസിയെയുംമകനെയും പുറത്താക്കിക്കളക; ഈ ദാസിയുടെ മകൻ എന്റെ മകൻ യിസ്ഹാക്കിനോടു കൂടെ അവകാശിയാകരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹¹തന്റെ മകൻ നിമിത്തം ഈ കാര്യം അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു അനിഷ്ടമായി.

¹²എന്നാൽ ദൈവം അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു: ബാലന്റെ നിമിത്തവും ദാസിയുടെ നിമിത്തവും നിനക്കു അനിഷ്ടം തോന്നരുതു; സാറാ നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞതിലൊക്കെയുംഅവളുടെ വാക്കു കേൾക്ക; യിസ്ഹാക്കിൽനിന്നുള്ളവരല്ലോ നിന്റെ സാക്ഷാൽ സന്തതിയെന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതു.

¹³ദാസിയുടെമകനെയും ഞാൻ ഒരു ജാതിയാക്കും; അവൻ നിന്റെ സന്തതിയല്ലോ എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

¹⁴അബ്രാഹാം അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു അപ്പവും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വെള്ളവും എടുത്തു ഹാഗാരിന്റെ തോളിൽവെച്ചു, കുട്ടിയെയും കൊടുത്തു അവളെ അയച്ചു; അവൾ പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി ബേർ-ശേബ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഉഴന്നു നടന്നു.

¹⁵തുരുത്തിയിലെ വെള്ളം ചെലവായശേഷം അവൾ കുട്ടിയെ ഒരു കുറുങ്കാട്ടിൻ തണലിൽ ഇട്ടു.

¹⁶അവൾ പോയി അതിന്നെതിരെ ഒരു അമ്പിൻ പാടു ദൂരത്തു ഇരുന്നു: കുട്ടിയുടെ മരണം എനിക്കു കാണേണ്ടാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു എതിരെ ഇരുന്നു ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു.

¹⁷ദൈവം ബാലന്റെ നിലവിളി കേട്ടു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദൂതൻ ആകാശത്തു നിന്നു ഹാഗാരിനെ വിളിച്ചു അവളോടു: ഹാഗാരേ, നിനക്കു എന്തു? നീ ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; ബാലൻ ഇരിക്കുന്നേടത്തുനിന്നു അവന്റെ നിലവിളികേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

¹⁸നീ ചെന്നു ബാലനെ താങ്ങി എഴുന്നേല്പിച്ചുകൊൾക; ഞാൻ അവനെ ഒരു വലിയ ജാതിയാക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

¹⁹ദൈവം അവളുടെ കണ്ണു തുറന്നു; അവൾ ഒരു നീരുറവു കണ്ടു, ചെന്നു തുരുത്തിയിൽ വെള്ളം നിറച്ചു ബാലനെ കുടിപ്പിച്ചു.

²⁰ദൈവം ബാലനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൻ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ പാർത്തു, മുതിർന്നപ്പോൾ ഒരു വില്ലാളിയായി തീർന്നു.

²¹അവൻ പാരാൻ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ പാർത്തു; അവന്റെ അമ്മ മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്നു അവന്നു ഒരു ഭാര്യയെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

¹A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.

²The woman conceived and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.

³When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

⁴His sister stood far off, to see what would be done to him.

⁵Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.

⁶She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

⁷Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

⁸Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.”

⁹Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.”

¹⁰The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

¹എന്നാൽ ലേവികുടുംബത്തിലെ ഒരു പുരുഷൻ പോയി ഒരു ലേവ്യകന്യകയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

²അവൾ ഗർഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. അവൻ സൌന്ദര്യമുള്ളവൻ എന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവനെ മൂന്നു മാസം ഒളിച്ചുവെച്ചു.

³അവനെ പിന്നെ ഒളിച്ചുവെപ്പാൻ കഴിയാതെ ആയപ്പോൾ അവൾ ഒരു ഞാങ്ങണപ്പെട്ടകം വാങ്ങി, അതിന്നു പശയും കീലും തേച്ചു, പൈതലിനെ അതിൽ കിടത്തി, നദിയുടെ അരികിൽ ഞാങ്ങണയുടെ ഇടയിൽ വെച്ചു.

⁴അവന്നു എന്തു ഭവിക്കുമെന്നു അറിവാൻ അവന്റെ പെങ്ങൾ ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു.

⁵അപ്പോൾ ഫറവോന്റെ പുത്രി നദിയിൽ കുളിപ്പാൻ വന്നു; അവളുടെ ദാസിമാർ നദീതീരത്തുകൂടി നടന്നു; അവൾ ഞാങ്ങണയുടെ ഇടയിൽ പെട്ടകം കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അതിനെ എടുത്തു കൊണ്ടുവരുവാൻ ദാസിയെ അയച്ചു.

⁶അവൾ അതു തുറന്നാറെ പൈതലിനെ കണ്ടു: കുട്ടി ഇതാ, കരയുന്നു. അവൾക്കു അതിനോടു അലിവുതോന്നി: ഇതു എബ്രായരുടെ പൈതങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁷അവന്റെ പെങ്ങൾ ഫറവോന്റെ പുത്രിയോടു: ഈ പൈതലിന്നു മുലകൊടുക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒരു എബ്രായസ്ത്രീയെ ഞാൻ ചെന്നു വിളിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവരേണമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

⁸ഫറവോന്റെ പുത്രി അവളോടു: ചെന്നു കൊണ്ടു വരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. കന്യക ചെന്നു പൈതലിന്റെ അമ്മയെ വിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

⁹ഫറവോന്റെ പുത്രി അവളോടു: നീ ഈ പൈതലിനെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി മുലകൊടുത്തു വളർത്തേണം; ഞാൻ നിനക്കു ശമ്പളം തരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സ്ത്രി പൈതലിനെ എടുത്തു കൊണ്ടുപോയി മുലകൊടുത്തു വളർത്തി.

¹⁰പൈതൽ വളർന്നശേഷം അവൾ അവനെ ഫറവോന്റെ പുത്രിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടു പോയി, അവൻ അവൾക്കു മകനായി: ഞാൻ അവനെ വെള്ളത്തിൽ നിന്നു വലിച്ചെടുത്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവൾ അവന്നു മോശെ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

¹Unless Yahweh builds the house,

²It is vain for you to rise up early,

³Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh.

⁴As arrows in the hand of a mighty man,

⁵Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them.

¹യഹോവ വീടു പണിയാതിരുന്നാൽ പണിയുന്നവർ വൃഥാ അദ്ധ്വാനിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവ പട്ടണം കാക്കാതിരുന്നാൽ കാവൽക്കാരൻ വൃഥാ ജാഗരിക്കുന്നു.

²നിങ്ങൾ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേലക്കുന്നതും നന്നാ താമസിച്ചു കിടപ്പാൻ പോകുന്നതും കഠിനപ്രയത്നം ചെയ്തു ഉപജീവിക്കുന്നതും വ്യർത്ഥമത്രേ; തന്റെ പ്രിയന്നോ, അവൻ അതു ഉറക്കത്തിൽ കൊടുക്കുന്നു.

³മക്കൾ, യഹോവ നലകുന്ന അവകാശവും ഉദര ഫലം, അവൻ തരുന്ന പ്രതിഫലവും തന്നേ.

⁴വീരന്റെ കയ്യിലെ അസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ എങ്ങനെയോ അങ്ങനെയാകുന്നു യൌവനത്തിലെ മക്കൾ.

⁵അവയെക്കൊണ്ടു തന്റെ ആവനാഴിക നിറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷൻ ഭാഗ്യവാൻ ; നഗരവാതിൽക്കൽവെച്ചു ശത്രുക്കളോടു സംസാരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അങ്ങനെയുള്ളവർ ലജ്ജിച്ചുപോകയില്ല.

¹For Zion’s sake I will not hold my peace,

²The nations will see your righteousness,

³You will also be a crown of beauty in Yahweh’s hand,

⁴You will not be called Forsaken any more,

⁵For as a young man marries a virgin,

⁶I have set watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem.

⁷and give him no rest until he establishes,

⁸Yahweh has sworn by his right hand,

⁹but those who have harvested it will eat it, and praise Yahweh.

¹⁰Go through, go through the gates!

¹¹Behold, Yahweh has proclaimed to the end of the earth:

¹²They will call them “The Holy People,

¹സീയോനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഞാൻ മിണ്ടാതെ ഇരിക്കയില്ല, യെരൂശലേമിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഞാൻ അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കയുമില്ല; അതിന്റെ നീതി പ്രകാശംപോലെയും അതിന്റെ രക്ഷ, കത്തുന്ന വിളകൂപോലെയും വിളങ്ങിവരുവോളം തന്നേ

⁴നിന്നെ ഇനി അസൂബാ (ത്യക്ത) എന്നു വിളിക്കയില്ല; നിന്റെ ദേശത്തെ ശെമാമാ (ശൂൻ യം) എന്നു പറകയുമില്ല; നിനക്കു ഹെഫ്സീബാ (ഇഷ്ട) എന്നും നിന്റെ ദേശത്തിന്നു ബെയൂലാ (വിവാഹസ്ഥ) എന്നും പേർ‍ ആകും; യഹോവേക്കു നിന്നോടു പ്രിയമുണ്ടല്ലോ; നിന്റെ ദേശത്തിന്നു വിവാഹം കഴിയും

⁵യൌവനക്കാരൻ കൻ യകയെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെ നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ‍ നിന്നെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്യും; മണവാളൻ മണവാട്ടിയിൽ സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നിന്റെ ദൈവം നിന്നിൽ സന്തോഷിക്കും

⁶യെരൂശലേമേ, ഞാൻ നിന്റെ മതിലുകളിന്മേൽ കാവൽക്കാരെ ആക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവർ‍ രാവോ പകലോ ഒരിക്കലും മിണ്ടാതെയിരിക്കയില്ല; യഹോവയെ ഔർ‍പ്പിക്കുന്നവരേ, നിങ്ങൾ സ്വസ്ഥമായിരിക്കരുതു

⁷അവൻ യെരൂശലേമിനെ യഥാസ്ഥാനപ്പെടുത്തുവോളവും ഭൂമിയിൽ അതിനെ പ്രശംസാവിഷയമാക്കുവോളവും അവന്നു സ്വസ്ഥത കൊടുക്കയുമരുതു

⁸ഇനി ഞാൻ നിന്റെ ധാൻ യം നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കൾക്കു ആഹാരമായി കൊടുക്കയില്ല; നീ അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചുണ്ടാക്കിയ വീഞ്ഞു അൻ യജാതിക്കാർ‍ കുടിച്ചുകളകയുമില്ല എന്നു യഹോവ തന്റെ വലങ്കയ്യും തന്റെ ബലമുള്ള ഭുജവം തൊട്ടു സത്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു

⁹അതിനെ ശേഖരിച്ചവർ‍ തന്നേ അതു ഭക്ഷിച്ചു യഹോവയെ സ്തുതിക്കും; അതിനെ സംഭരിച്ചവർ‍ തന്നേ എന്റെ വിശുദ്ധപ്രാകാരങ്ങളിൽ വെച്ചു അതു പാനം ചെയ്യും

¹⁰കടപ്പിൻ ‍; വാതിലുകളിൽ കൂടി കടപ്പിൻ ‍; ജനത്തിന്നു വഴി ഒരുക്കുവിൻ ‍; നികത്തുവിൻ പെരുവഴി നികത്തുവിൻ ‍; കല്ലു പെറുക്കിക്കളവിൻ ‍; ജാതികൾക്കായിട്ടു ഒരു കൊടി ഉയർത്തുവിൻ ‍

¹See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.

²Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is.

³Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

¹കാണ്മിൻ, നാം ദൈവമക്കൾ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുവാൻ പിതാവു നമുക്കു എത്ര വലിയ സ്നേഹം നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ നാം ആകുന്നു. ലോകം അവനെ അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു നമ്മെയും അറിയുന്നില്ല.

⁵⁷Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she gave birth to a son.

⁵⁸Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.

⁵⁹On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

⁶⁰His mother answered, “Not so; but he will be called John.”

⁶¹They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”

⁶²They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.

⁶³He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.”

⁶⁴His mouth was opened immediately and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.

⁶⁵Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.

⁶⁶All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, “What then will this child be?” The hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷His father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,

⁶⁹and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David

⁷⁰(as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),

⁷¹salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;

⁷²to show mercy toward our fathers,

⁷³the oath which he swore to Abraham our father,

⁷⁴to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies,

⁷⁵in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.

⁷⁶And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;

⁷⁷to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the remission of their sins,

⁷⁸because of the tender mercy of our God,

⁷⁹to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death;

⁸⁰The child was growing and becoming strong in spirit, and was in the desert until the day of his public appearance to Israel.

⁵⁷എലീശബെത്തിന്നു പ്രസവിപ്പാനുള്ള കാലം തികഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ അവൾ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു;

⁵⁸കർത്താവു അവൾക്കു വലിയ കരുണ കാണിച്ചു എന്നു അയൽക്കാരും ചാർച്ചക്കാരും കേട്ടിട്ടു അവളോടുകൂടെ സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

⁶⁰അവന്റെ അമ്മയോ: അല്ല, അവന്നു യോഹന്നാൻ എന്നു പേരിടേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁶¹അവർ അവളോടു: നിന്റെ ചാർച്ചയിൽ ഈ പേരുള്ളവർ ആരും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁶²പിന്നെ അവന്നു എന്തു പേർ വിളിപ്പാൻ വിചാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അപ്പനോടു ആഗ്യംകാട്ടി ചോദിച്ചു.

⁶³അവൻ ഒരു എഴുത്തു പലക ചോദിച്ചു: അവന്റെ പേർ യോഹന്നാൻ എന്നു എഴുതി; എല്ലാവരും ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

⁶⁴ഉടനെ അവന്റെ വായും നാവും തുറന്നു, അവൻ സംസാരിച്ചു ദൈവത്തെ സ്തുതിച്ചു.

⁶⁵ചുറ്റും പാർക്കുംന്നവർക്കും എല്ലാം ഭയം ഉണ്ടായി;, യെഹൂദ്യമലനാട്ടിൽ എങ്ങും ഈ വാർത്ത ഒക്കെയും പരന്നു.

⁶⁶കേട്ടവർ എല്ലാവരും അതു ഹൃദയത്തിൽ നിക്ഷേപിച്ചു: ഈ പൈതൽ എന്തു ആകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; കർത്താവിന്റെ കൈ അവനോടു കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

⁶⁷അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ സെഖര്യാവു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു നിറഞ്ഞവനായി പ്രവചിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞതു:

⁶⁸“യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ കർത്താവു അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ . അവൻ തന്റെ ജനത്തെ സന്ദർശിച്ചു ഉദ്ധാരണം ചെയ്കയും

⁶⁹ആദിമുതൽ തന്റെ വിശുദ്ധപ്രവാചകന്മാർ മുഖാന്തരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുപോലെ

⁷⁰നമ്മുടെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ വശത്തു നിന്നും നമ്മെ പകെക്കുന്ന ഏവരുടെയും കയ്യിൽ നിന്നും നമ്മെ രക്ഷിപ്പാൻ

⁷¹തന്റെ ദാസനായ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിൽ നമുക്കു രക്ഷയുടെ കൊമ്പു ഉയർത്തുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതു,

⁷²നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കരുണ പ്രവർത്തിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും

⁷³നമ്മുടെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യിൽ നിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടു

⁷⁴നാം ആയുഷ്ക്കാലം ഒക്കെയും ഭയം കൂടാതെ തിരുമുമ്പിൽ വിശുദ്ധിയിലും നീതിയിലും തന്നെ ആരാധിപ്പാൻ നമുക്കു കൃപ നലകുമെന്നു

⁷⁵അവൻ നമ്മുടെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു സത്യവും തന്റെ വിശുദ്ധ നിയമവും ഔർത്തതുകൊണ്ടും ആകുന്നു.

⁷⁶നീയോ പൈതലേ, അത്യുന്നതന്റെ പ്രവാചകൻ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും. കർത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കുവാനും

⁷⁷നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആർദ്രകരുണയാൽ അവന്റെ ജനത്തിന്നു പാപമോചനത്തിൽ രക്ഷാപരിജ്ഞാനം കൊടുപ്പാനുമായി നീ അവന്നു മുമ്പായി നടക്കും.

⁷⁸ഇരുളിലും മരണനിഴലിലും ഇരിക്കുന്നവർക്കും പ്രകാശിച്ചു, നമ്മുടെ കാലുകളെ സമാധാനമാർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നടത്തേണ്ടതിന്നു

⁷⁹ആ ആർദ്രകരുണയാൽ ഉയരത്തിൽനിന്നു ഉദയം നമ്മെ സന്ദർശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”

⁸⁰പൈതൽ വളർന്നു ആത്മാവിൽ ബലപ്പെട്ടു; അവൻ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു തന്നെത്താൻ കാണിക്കും നാൾവരെ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു.
