²²When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

²³(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),

²⁴and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

²⁵Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

²⁶It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

²⁷He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,

²⁸then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,

²⁹“Now you are releasing your servant, Master,

³⁰for my eyes have seen your salvation,

³¹which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;

³²a light for revelation to the nations,

³³Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him.

³⁴Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.

³⁵Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

³⁶There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

³⁷and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day.

³⁸Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

³⁹When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

⁴⁰The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

²⁴അവനെ കർത്താവിന്നു അർപ്പിപ്പാനും ഒരു ഇണ കുറപ്രാവിനെയോ രണ്ടു പ്രാകൂഞ്ഞിനെയോ കർത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും അവർ അവനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

²⁵യെരൂശലേമിൽ ശിമ്യോൻ എന്നു പേരുള്ളൊരു മനുഷ്യൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ നീതിമാനും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ആശ്വാസത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു; പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവും അവന്റെ മേൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

²⁶കർത്താവിന്റെ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ കാണുംമുമ്പെ മരണം കാണ്കയില്ല എന്നു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനാൽ അവന്നു അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

²⁷അവൻ ആത്മനിയോഗത്താൽ ദൈവാലയത്തിൽ ചെന്നു. യേശു എന്ന പൈതലിന്നു വേണ്ടി ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്റെ ചട്ടപ്രകാരം ചെയ്‍വാൻ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാർ അവനെ അകത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നപ്പോൾ

²⁸അവൻ അവനെ കയ്യിൽ ഏന്തി ദൈവത്തെ പുകഴ്ത്തി:

²⁹“ഇപ്പോൾ നാഥാ തിരുവചനം പോലെ നീ അടിയനെ സമാധാനത്തോടെ വിട്ടയക്കുന്നു.

³⁰ജാതികൾക്കു വെളിപ്പെടുവാനുള്ള പ്രകാശവും നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്വവുമായി

³¹നീ സകല ജാതികളുടെയും മുമ്പിൽ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ

³²എന്റെ കണ്ണു കണ്ടുവല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

³³ഇങ്ങനെ അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതിൽ അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

³⁴പിന്നെ ശിമ്യോൻ അവരെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു അവന്റെ അമ്മയായ മറിയയോടു: അനേകഹൃദയങ്ങളിലെ വിചാരം വെളിപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇവനെ യിസ്രായേലിൽ പലരുടെയും വീഴ്ചെയക്കും എഴുന്നേല്പിന്നും മറുത്തുപറയുന്ന അടയാളത്തിന്നുമായി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

³⁵നിന്റെ സ്വന്തപ്രാണനിൽകൂടിയും ഒരു വാൾ കടക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

³⁶ആശേർ ഗോത്രത്തിൽ ഫനൂവേലിന്റെ മകളായ ഹന്നാ എന്നൊരു പ്രവാചകി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൾ കന്യാകാലത്തിൽ പിന്നെ ഭർത്താവിനോടുകൂടെ ഏഴു സംവത്സരം കഴിച്ചു എണ്പത്തുനാലു സംവത്സരം വിധവയും വളരെ വയസ്സു ചെന്നവളുമായി

⁴⁰പൈതൽ വളർന്നു ജ്ഞാനം നിറഞ്ഞു, ആത്മാവിൽ ബലപ്പെട്ടുപോന്നു; ദൈവകൃപയും അവന്മേൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

⁴⁰പൈതൽ വളർന്നു ജ്ഞാനം നിറഞ്ഞു, ആത്മാവിൽ ബലപ്പെട്ടുപോന്നു; ദൈവകൃപയും അവന്മേൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

¹A shoot will come out of the stock of Jesse,

²Yahweh’s Spirit will rest on him:

³His delight will be in the fear of Yahweh.

⁴but he will judge the poor with righteousness,

⁵Righteousness will be the belt around his waist,

⁶The wolf will live with the lamb,

⁷The cow and the bear will graze.

⁸The nursing child will play near a cobra’s hole,

⁹They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain;

¹⁰It will happen in that day that the nations will seek the root of Jesse, who stands as a banner of the peoples; and his resting place will be glorious.

¹എന്നാൽ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ കുറ്റിയിൽനിന്നു ഒരു മുള പൊട്ടി പുറപ്പെടും; അവന്റെ വേരുകളിൽനിന്നുള്ള ഒരു കൊമ്പു ഫലം കായിക്കും.

⁴അവൻ ദരിദ്രന്മാർക്കും നീതിയോടെ ന്യായം പാലിച്ചുകൊടുക്കയും ദേശത്തിലെ സാധുക്കൾക്കു നേരോടെ വിധികല്പിക്കയും ചെയ്യും; തന്റെ വായ് എന്ന വടികൊണ്ടു അവൻ ഭൂമിയെ അടിക്കും; തന്റെ അധരങ്ങളുടെ ശ്വാസംകൊണ്ടു ദുഷ്ടനെകൊല്ലും.

⁵നീതി അവന്റെ നടുക്കെട്ടും വിശ്വസ്തത അവന്റെ അരക്കച്ചയും ആയിരിക്കും.

⁶ചെന്നായി കുഞ്ഞാടിനോടുകൂടെ പാർക്കും; പുള്ളിപ്പുലി കോലാട്ടുകുട്ടിയോടുകൂടെ കിടക്കും; പശുക്കിടാവും ബാലസിംഹവും തടിപ്പിച്ച മൃഗവും ഒരുമിച്ചു പാർക്കും; ഒരു ചെറിയ കുട്ടി അവയെ നടത്തും.

⁷പശു കരടിയോടുകൂടെ മേയും; അവയുടെ കുട്ടികൾ ഒരുമിച്ചു കിടക്കും; സിംഹം കാള എന്നപോലെ വൈക്കോൽ തിന്നും.

⁸മുലകുടിക്കുന്ന ശിശു സർപ്പത്തിന്റെ പോതിങ്കൽ കളിക്കും; മുലകുടിമാറിയ പൈതൽ അണലിയുടെ പൊത്തിൽ കൈ ഇടും.

⁹സമുദ്രം വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഭൂമി യഹോവയുടെ പരിജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു പൂർണ്ണമായിരിക്കയാൽ എന്റെ വിശുദ്ധപർവ്വതത്തിൽ എങ്ങും ഒരു ദോഷമോ നാശമോ ആരും ചെയ്കയില്ല.

¹⁰അന്നാളിൽ വംശങ്ങൾക്കു കൊടിയായി നിലക്കുന്ന യിശ്ശായിവേരായവനെ ജാതികൾ അന്വേഷിച്ചുവരും; അവന്റെ വിശ്രാമസ്ഥലം മഹത്വമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.

¹⁰When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, “Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense,

¹¹seeing that you can verify that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem.

¹²In the temple they didn’t find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city.

¹³Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me.

¹⁴But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;

¹⁵having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

¹⁶In this I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.

¹⁷Now after some years, I came to bring gifts for the needy to my nation, and offerings;

¹⁸amid which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, not with a mob, nor with turmoil.

¹⁹They ought to have been here before you and to make accusation if they had anything against me.

²⁰Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,

²¹unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!’ ”

²²But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, “When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case.”

²³He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.

¹⁰സംസാരിക്കാം എന്നു ദേശാധിപതി ആംഗ്യം കാട്ടിയാറെ പൗലൊസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതു: ഈ ജാതിക്കു നീ അനേകസംവത്സരമായി ന്യായാധിപതി ആയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അറിക കെണ്ടു എന്റെ കാര്യത്തിൽ ഞാൻ ധൈര്യത്തോടെ പ്രതിവാദം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

¹²ദൈവാലയത്തിലോ പള്ളികളിലോ നഗരങ്ങളിലോവെച്ചു ആരോടും വാദിക്കയെങ്കിലും പുരുഷാരത്തിൽ കലഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കുകയെങ്കിലും ചെയ്യുന്നാതായി അവർ എന്നെ കണ്ടില്ല.

¹³ഇന്നു എന്റെ നേരെ ബോധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അന്യായം നിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ തെളിയിപ്പാൻ അവർക്കും കഴിയുന്നതുമല്ല.

¹⁴എന്നാൽ ഒന്നു ഞാൻ സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു: മതഭേദം എന്നു ഇവർ പറയുന്ന മാർഗ്ഗപ്രകാരം ഞാൻ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവത്തെ ആരാധിക്കയും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിലും പ്രവാചകപുസ്തകങ്ങളിലും എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു ഒക്കെയും വിശ്വസിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

¹⁵നീതിമാന്മാരുടെയും നീതികെട്ടവരുടെയും പുനരുത്ഥാനം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു ഇവർ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാനും ദൈവത്തിങ്കൽ ആശവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

¹⁶അതു കൊണ്ടു എനിക്കു ദൈവത്തോടും മനുഷ്യരോടും കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത മനസ്സാക്ഷി എല്ലായ്പോഴും ഉണ്ടായിരിപ്പാൻ ഞാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

¹⁷പലസംവത്സരം കൂടീട്ടു ഞാൻ എന്റെ ജാതിക്കാർക്കും ധർമ്മം കൊണ്ടുവരുവാനും വഴിപാടു കഴിപ്പാനും വന്നു.

¹⁸അതു അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവർ എന്നെ ദൈവാലയത്തിൽവെച്ചു ശുദ്ധീകരണം കഴിഞ്ഞവനായി കണ്ടു; പുരുഷാരത്തോടു കൂടിയല്ല, കലഹത്തോടുകൂടിയുമല്ല.

¹⁹എന്നാൽ ആസ്യക്കാരായ ചില യെഹൂദന്മാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവർക്കും എന്റെ നേരെ അന്യായം ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ നിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വന്നു ബോധിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു.

²⁰അല്ല, ഞാൻ ന്യായാധിപസംഘത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ നിലക്കുമ്പോൾ മരിച്ചവരുടെ പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ഇന്നു നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ വിസ്തരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഞാൻ വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞോരു വാക്കല്ലാതെ

²²When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

²³(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),

²⁴and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

²⁵Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

²⁶It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

²⁷He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,

²⁸then he received him into his arms and blessed God, and said,

²⁹“Now you are releasing your servant, Master,

³⁰for my eyes have seen your salvation,

³¹which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;

³²a light for revelation to the nations,

³³Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him.

³⁴Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.

³⁵Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

³⁶There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

³⁷and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day.

³⁸Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

³⁹When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

⁴⁰The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

²²മോശെയുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം അവളുടെ ശുദ്ധീകരണകാലം തികഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ

²³കടിഞ്ഞൂലായ ആണൊക്കെയും കർത്താവിന്നു വിശുദ്ധം ആയിരിക്കേണം എന്നു കർത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ

²⁴അവനെ കർത്താവിന്നു അർപ്പിപ്പാനും ഒരു ഇണ കുറപ്രാവിനെയോ രണ്ടു പ്രാകൂഞ്ഞിനെയോ കർത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും അവർ അവനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

²⁵യെരൂശലേമിൽ ശിമ്യോൻ എന്നു പേരുള്ളൊരു മനുഷ്യൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ നീതിമാനും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ആശ്വാസത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു; പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവും അവന്റെ മേൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

²⁶കർത്താവിന്റെ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ കാണുംമുമ്പെ മരണം കാണ്കയില്ല എന്നു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനാൽ അവന്നു അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

²⁷അവൻ ആത്മനിയോഗത്താൽ ദൈവാലയത്തിൽ ചെന്നു. യേശു എന്ന പൈതലിന്നു വേണ്ടി ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്റെ ചട്ടപ്രകാരം ചെയ്‍വാൻ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാർ അവനെ അകത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നപ്പോൾ

²⁸അവൻ അവനെ കയ്യിൽ ഏന്തി ദൈവത്തെ പുകഴ്ത്തി:

²⁹“ഇപ്പോൾ നാഥാ തിരുവചനം പോലെ നീ അടിയനെ സമാധാനത്തോടെ വിട്ടയക്കുന്നു.

³⁰ജാതികൾക്കു വെളിപ്പെടുവാനുള്ള പ്രകാശവും നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്വവുമായി

³¹നീ സകല ജാതികളുടെയും മുമ്പിൽ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ

³²എന്റെ കണ്ണു കണ്ടുവല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

³³ഇങ്ങനെ അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതിൽ അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

³⁴പിന്നെ ശിമ്യോൻ അവരെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു അവന്റെ അമ്മയായ മറിയയോടു: അനേകഹൃദയങ്ങളിലെ വിചാരം വെളിപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇവനെ യിസ്രായേലിൽ പലരുടെയും വീഴ്ചെയക്കും എഴുന്നേല്പിന്നും മറുത്തുപറയുന്ന അടയാളത്തിന്നുമായി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

³⁵നിന്റെ സ്വന്തപ്രാണനിൽകൂടിയും ഒരു വാൾ കടക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

³⁶ആശേർ ഗോത്രത്തിൽ ഫനൂവേലിന്റെ മകളായ ഹന്നാ എന്നൊരു പ്രവാചകി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൾ കന്യാകാലത്തിൽ പിന്നെ ഭർത്താവിനോടുകൂടെ ഏഴു സംവത്സരം കഴിച്ചു എണ്പത്തുനാലു സംവത്സരം വിധവയും വളരെ വയസ്സു ചെന്നവളുമായി

³⁷ദൈവാലയം വിട്ടു പിരിയാതെ ഉപവാസത്തോടും പ്രാർത്ഥനയോടും കൂടെ രാവും പകലും ആരാധന ചെയ്തു പോന്നു.

³⁸ആ നാഴികയിൽ അവളും അടുത്തുനിന്നു ദൈവത്തെ സ്തുതിച്ചു, യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പിനെ കാത്തിരുന്ന എല്ലാവരോടും അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.

³⁹കർത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ കല്പിച്ചുരിക്കുന്നതൊക്കെയും നിവർത്തിച്ചശേഷം അവർ ഗലീലയിൽ തങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണമായ നസറത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

⁴⁰പൈതൽ വളർന്നു ജ്ഞാനം നിറഞ്ഞു, ആത്മാവിൽ ബലപ്പെട്ടുപോന്നു; ദൈവകൃപയും അവന്മേൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
