¹Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

²When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.

³The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

⁴But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’ ”

⁵Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,

⁶and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

⁷Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the Lord, your God.’ ”

⁸Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

⁹He said to him, “I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me.”

¹⁰Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’ ”

¹¹Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.

¹അനന്തരം പിശാചിനാൽ പരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുവാൻ യേശുവിനെ ആത്മാവു മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു നടത്തി.

²അവൻ നാല്പതു പകലും നാല്പതു രാവും ഉപവസിച്ച ശേഷം അവന്നു വിശന്നു.

³അപ്പോൾ പരീക്ഷകൻ അടുത്തു വന്നു: നീ ദൈവപുത്രൻ എങ്കിൽ ഈ കല്ലു അപ്പമായ്തീരുവാൻ കല്പിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁴അതിന്നു അവൻ: '''“മനുഷ്യൻ അപ്പംകൊണ്ടു മാത്രമല്ല, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വായിൽകൂടി വരുന്ന സകലവചനംകൊണ്ടും ജീവിക്കുന്നു”'''എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁵പിന്നെ പിശാചു അവനെ വിശുദ്ധ നഗരത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയി ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ അഗ്രത്തിന്മേൽ നിറുത്തി അവനോടു:

⁶നീ ദൈവപുത്രൻ എങ്കിൽ താഴത്തോട്ടു ചാടുക; “നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു അവൻ തന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരോടു കല്പിക്കും; അവൻ നിന്റെ കാൽ കല്ലിനോടു തട്ടാതവണ്ണം നിന്നെ കയ്യിൽ താങ്ങികൊള്ളും” എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁷യേശു അവനോടു: '''“നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ കൎത്താവിനെ പരീക്ഷിക്കരുതു എന്നും കൂടെ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു”''' എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁸പിന്നെ പിശാചു അവനെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയൎന്നോരു മലമേൽ കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടുപോയി ലോകത്തിലുള്ള സകല രാജ്യങ്ങളെയും അവയുടെ മഹത്വത്തെയും കാണിച്ചു:

⁹വീണു എന്നെ നമസ്കരിച്ചാൽ ഇതൊക്കെയും നിനക്കു തരാം എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁰യേശു അവനോടു: “സാത്താനേ, എന്നെ വിട്ടുപോ; നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ കൎത്താവിനെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു അവനെ മാത്രമേ ആരാധിക്കാവു എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹¹അപ്പോൾ പിശാചു അവനെ വിട്ടുപോയി; ദൂതന്മാർ അടുത്തുവന്നു അവനെ ശുശ്രൂഷിച്ചു.

¹Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

²for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry.

³The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

⁴Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”

⁵The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

⁶The devil said to him, “I will give you all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I want.

⁷If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours.”

⁸Jesus answered him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’ ”

⁹He led him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here,

¹⁰for it is written,

¹¹and,

¹²Jesus answering, said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

¹³When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until another time.

¹യേശു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു നിറഞ്ഞവനായി യോർദ്ദാൻ വിട്ടു മടങ്ങി; ആത്മാവു അവനെ മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു നടത്തി; പിശാചു അവനെ നാല്പതു ദിവസം പരീക്ഷിച്ചുകെകണ്ടിരുന്നു.

³അപ്പോൾ പിശാചു അവനോടു: നീ ദൈവ പുത്രൻ എങ്കിൽ ഈ കല്ലിനോടു അപ്പമായി ത്തീരുവാൻ കല്പിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁴യേശു അവനോടു: മനുഷ്യൻ അപ്പംകൊണ്ടു മാത്രമല്ല ജീവിക്കുന്നതു എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁵പിന്നെ പിശാചു അവനെ മേലോട്ടു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി ലോകത്തിലെ സകല രാജ്യങ്ങളെയും ക്ഷണനേരത്തിൽ അവന്നു കാണിച്ചു:

⁶ഈ അധികാരം ഒക്കെയും അതിന്റെ മഹത്വവും നിനക്കു തരാം; അതു എങ്കൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്കു മനസ്സുള്ളവന്നു ഞാൻ കൊടുക്കുന്നു.

⁷നീ എന്നെ നമസ്കരിച്ചാൽ അതെല്ലാം നിന്റെതാകും എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁸യേശു അവനോടു: നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ കർത്താവിനെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു അവനെ മാത്രമേ ആരാധിക്കാവു എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁹പിന്നെ അവൻ അവനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പോയി ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ അഗ്രത്തിന്മേൽ നിറുത്തി അവനോടു: നീ ദൈവപുത്രൻ എങ്കിൽ ഇവിടെ നിന്നു താഴോട്ടു ചാടുക.

¹³അങ്ങനെ പിശാചു സകല പരീക്ഷയും തികെച്ചശേഷം കുറെ കാലത്തേക്കു അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി.

³In the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that Yahweh had given him in commandment to them,

⁴after he had struck Sihon the king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan who lived in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.

⁵Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to declare this law, saying,

⁶“Yahweh our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, ‘You have lived long enough at this mountain.

⁷Turn, and take your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites and to all the places near there: in the Arabah, in the hill country, in the lowland, in the South, by the seashore, in the land of the Canaanites, and in Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

⁸Behold, I have set the land before you. Go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers—to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob—to give to them and to their offspring after them.’ ”

⁹I spoke to you at that time, saying, “I am not able to bear you myself alone.

¹⁰Yahweh your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are today as the stars of the sky for multitude.

¹¹May Yahweh, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you, as he has promised you!

¹²How can I myself alone bear your problems, your burdens, and your strife?

¹³Take wise men of understanding who are respected among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”

¹⁴You answered me, and said, “The thing which you have spoken is good to do.”

¹⁸Gad came that day to David and said to him, “Go up, build an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

¹⁹David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Yahweh commanded.

²⁰Araunah looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. Then Araunah went out and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

²¹Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?”

²²Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the cattle for the burnt offering, and the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood.

²³All this, O king, does Araunah give to the king.” Araunah said to the king, “May Yahweh your God accept you.”

²⁴The king said to Araunah, “No, but I will most certainly buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to Yahweh my God which cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

²⁵David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was removed from Israel.

¹⁸അന്നുതന്നേ ഗാദ് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു അവനോടു: നീ ചെന്നു യെബൂസ്യനായ അരവ്നയുടെ കളത്തിൽ യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം ഉണ്ടാക്കുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

²¹യജമാനനായ രാജാവു അടിയന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു അരവ്നാ ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു ദാവീദ്: ബാധ ജനത്തെ വിട്ടുമാറുവാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഈ കളം നിന്നോടു വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങുവാൻ തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

²²അരവ്നാ ദാവീദിനോടു: യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്നു ബോധിച്ചതു എടുത്തു യാഗം കഴിച്ചാലും; ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നു കാളകളും വിറകിന്നു മെതിവണ്ടികളും കാളക്കോപ്പുകളും ഇതാ.

²³രാജാവേ, ഇതൊക്കെയും അരവ്നാ രാജാവിന്നു തരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിന്നിൽ പ്രസാദിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നും അരവ്നാ രാജാവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

²⁴രാജാവു അരവ്നയോടു: അങ്ങനെയല്ല, ഞാൻ അതു നിന്നോടു വിലെക്കേ വാങ്ങുകയുള്ളു; എനിക്കു ഒന്നും ചെലവില്ലാതെ ഞാൻ എന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് കളത്തെയും കാളകളെയും അമ്പതു ശേക്കൽ വെള്ളിക്കു വാങ്ങി.

¹“Cry aloud! Don’t spare!

²Yet they seek me daily,

³‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you don’t see?

⁴Behold, you fast for strife and contention,

⁵Is this the fast that I have chosen?

⁶“Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen:

⁷Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry,

⁸Then your light will break out as the morning,

⁶അൻ യായബൻ ധനങ്ങളെ അഴിക്കുക; നുകത്തിന്റെ അമിക്കയറുകളെ അഴിക്കുക; പീഡിതരെ സ്വതന്ത്രരായി വിട്ടയക്ക; എല്ലാനുകത്തെയും തകർ‍ക്കുക; ഇതല്ലയോ എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള ഉപവാസം?

⁷വിശപ്പുള്ളവന്നു നിന്റെ അപ്പം നുറുക്കിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നതും അലഞ്ഞുനടക്കുന്ന സാധുക്കളെ നിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ ചേർത്തുകൊള്ളുന്നതും നഗ്നനെ കണ്ടാൽ അവനെ ഉടുപ്പിക്കുന്നതും നിന്റെ മാംസരക്തങ്ങളായിരിക്കുന്നവർ‍കൂ നിന്നെത്തന്നേ മറെക്കാതെയിരിക്കുന്നതും അല്ലയോ?

⁸അപ്പോൾ നിന്റെ വെളിച്ചം ഉഷസ്സുപോലെ പ്രകാശിക്കും; നിന്റെ മുറിവുകൾക്കു വേഗത്തിൽ പൊറുതിവരും; നിന്റെ നീതി നിനക്കു മുൻ പായി നടക്കും; യഹോവയുടെ മഹത്വം നിന്റെ പുൻ പട ആയിരിക്കും

¹³Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

¹⁴as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,

¹⁵but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior,

¹⁶because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

¹⁷If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear,

¹⁸knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things like silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,

¹⁹but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ,

²⁰who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake,

²¹who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.

²²Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently,

¹³ആകയാൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സു ഉറപ്പിച്ചു നിർമ്മദരായി യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പ്രത്യക്ഷതയിങ്കൽ നിങ്ങൾക്കു വരുവാനുള്ള കൃപയിൽ പൂർണ്ണ പ്രത്യാശ വെച്ചുകൊൾവിൻ .

¹⁴പണ്ടു നിങ്ങളുടെ അജ്ഞാനകാലത്തു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന മോഹങ്ങളെ

¹⁵മാതൃകയാക്കാതെ നിങ്ങളെ വിളിച്ച വിശുദ്ധന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം അനുസരണമുള്ള മക്കളായി എല്ലാനടപ്പിലും വിശുദ്ധരാകുവിൻ .

¹⁶“ഞാൻ വിശുദ്ധൻ ആകയാൽ നിങ്ങളും വിശുദ്ധരായിരിപ്പിൻ ” എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

¹⁷മുഖപക്ഷം കൂടാതെ ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം ന്യായം വിധിക്കുന്നവനെ നിങ്ങൾ പിതാവു എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവാസകാലം ഭയത്തോടെ കഴിപ്പിൻ .

²⁰അവൻ ലോകസ്ഥാപനത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ മുന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടവനും അവൻ മുഖാന്തരം ദൈവത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന നിങ്ങൾ നിമിത്തം ഈ അന്ത്യകാലത്തു വെളിപ്പെട്ടവനും ആകുന്നു.

¹¹Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.

¹²The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.

¹³Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.

¹⁴But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

¹Now accept one who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over opinions.

²One man has faith to eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables.

³Don’t let him who eats despise him who doesn’t eat. Don’t let him who doesn’t eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him.

⁴Who are you who judge another’s servant? To his own lord he stands or falls. Yes, he will be made to stand, for God has power to make him stand.

⁵One man esteems one day as more important. Another esteems every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.

⁶He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks. He who doesn’t eat, to the Lord he doesn’t eat, and gives God thanks.

⁷For none of us lives to himself, and none dies to himself.

⁸For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

⁹For to this end Christ died, rose, and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

¹¹ഇതു ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു ഉറക്കത്തിൽനിന്നു ഉണരുവാൻ നാഴിക വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നിങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങൾ സമയത്തെ അറികയാൽ തന്നേ; നാം വിശ്വസിച്ച സമയത്തെക്കാൾ രക്ഷ ഇപ്പോൾ നമുക്കു അധികം അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

¹²രാത്രി കഴിവാറായി പകൽ അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു അതുകൊണ്ടു നാം ഇരുട്ടിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളെ വെച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു വെളിച്ചത്തിന്റെ ആയുധവർഗ്ഗം ധരിച്ചുകൊൾക.

¹³പകൽസമയത്തു എന്നപോലെ നാം മര്യാദയായി നടക്ക; വെറിക്കൂത്തുകളിലും മദ്യപാനങ്ങളിലുമല്ല, ശയനമോഹങ്ങളിലും ദുഷ്കാമങ്ങളിലുമല്ല, പിണക്കത്തിലും അസൂയയിലുമല്ല.

¹⁴കർത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിനെത്തന്നേ ധരിച്ചുകൊൾവിൻ . മോഹങ്ങൾ ജനിക്കുമാറു ജഡത്തിന്നായി ചിന്തിക്കരുതു.

¹സംശയവിചാരങ്ങളെ വിധിക്കാതെ വിശ്വാസത്തിൽ ബലഹീനനായവനെ ചേർത്തുകൊൾവിൻ .

²ഒരുവൻ എല്ലാം തിന്നാമെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു; ബലഹീനനോ സസ്യാദികളെ തിന്നുന്നു.

³തിന്നുന്നവൻ തിന്നാത്തവനെ ധിക്കരിക്കരുതു; തിന്നാത്തവൻ തിന്നുന്നവനെ വിധിക്കരുതു; ദൈവം അവനെ കൈക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

⁴മറ്റൊരുത്തന്റെ ദാസനെ വിധിപ്പാൻ നീ ആർ? അവൻ നിലക്കുന്നതോ വീഴുന്നതോ സ്വന്തയജമാനന്നത്രേ; അവൻ നിലക്കുംതാനും; അവൻ നിലക്കുമാറാക്കുവാൻ കർത്താവിന്നു കഴിയുമല്ലോ.

⁵ഒരുവൻ ഒരു ദിവസത്തെക്കാൾ മറ്റൊരു ദിവസത്തെ മാനിക്കുന്നു; വേറൊരുവൻ സകലദിവസങ്ങളെയും മാനിക്കുന്നു; ഔരോരുത്തൻ താന്താന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ ഉറെച്ചിരിക്കട്ടെ.

⁶ദിവസത്തെ ആദരിക്കുന്നവൻ കർത്താവിന്നായി ആദരിക്കുന്നു; തിന്നുന്നവൻ കർത്താവിന്നായി തിന്നുന്നു; അവൻ ദൈവത്തെ സ്തുതിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; തിന്നാത്തവൻ കർത്താവിന്നായി തിന്നാതിരിക്കുന്നു; അവനും ദൈവത്തെ സ്തുതിക്കുന്നു.

⁷നമ്മിൽ ആരും തനിക്കായി തന്നേ ജീവിക്കുന്നില്ല. ആരും തനിക്കായി തന്നേ മരിക്കുന്നുമില്ല.

⁸ജീവിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ നാം കർത്താവിന്നായി ജീവിക്കുന്നു; മരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ കർത്താവിന്നായി മരിക്കുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ജീവിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിലും മരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിലും നാം കർത്താവിന്നുള്ളവർ തന്നേ.

⁹മരിച്ചവർക്കും ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവർക്കും കർത്താവു ആകേണ്ടതിന്നല്ലോ ക്രിസ്തു മരിക്കയും ഉയിക്കയും ചെയ്തതു.

¹Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

²When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.

³The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

⁴But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’ ”

⁵Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,

⁶and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

⁷Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the Lord, your God.’ ”

⁸Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

⁹He said to him, “I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me.”

¹⁰Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’ ”

¹¹Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.

¹അനന്തരം പിശാചിനാൽ പരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുവാൻ യേശുവിനെ ആത്മാവു മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു നടത്തി.

²അവൻ നാല്പതു പകലും നാല്പതു രാവും ഉപവസിച്ച ശേഷം അവന്നു വിശന്നു.

³അപ്പോൾ പരീക്ഷകൻ അടുത്തു വന്നു: നീ ദൈവപുത്രൻ എങ്കിൽ ഈ കല്ലു അപ്പമായ്തീരുവാൻ കല്പിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁴അതിന്നു അവൻ: '''“മനുഷ്യൻ അപ്പംകൊണ്ടു മാത്രമല്ല, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വായിൽകൂടി വരുന്ന സകലവചനംകൊണ്ടും ജീവിക്കുന്നു”'''എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁵പിന്നെ പിശാചു അവനെ വിശുദ്ധ നഗരത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയി ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ അഗ്രത്തിന്മേൽ നിറുത്തി അവനോടു:

⁶നീ ദൈവപുത്രൻ എങ്കിൽ താഴത്തോട്ടു ചാടുക; “നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു അവൻ തന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരോടു കല്പിക്കും; അവൻ നിന്റെ കാൽ കല്ലിനോടു തട്ടാതവണ്ണം നിന്നെ കയ്യിൽ താങ്ങികൊള്ളും” എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁷യേശു അവനോടു: '''“നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ കൎത്താവിനെ പരീക്ഷിക്കരുതു എന്നും കൂടെ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു”''' എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁸പിന്നെ പിശാചു അവനെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയൎന്നോരു മലമേൽ കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടുപോയി ലോകത്തിലുള്ള സകല രാജ്യങ്ങളെയും അവയുടെ മഹത്വത്തെയും കാണിച്ചു:

⁹വീണു എന്നെ നമസ്കരിച്ചാൽ ഇതൊക്കെയും നിനക്കു തരാം എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁰യേശു അവനോടു: “സാത്താനേ, എന്നെ വിട്ടുപോ; നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ കൎത്താവിനെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു അവനെ മാത്രമേ ആരാധിക്കാവു എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹¹അപ്പോൾ പിശാചു അവനെ വിട്ടുപോയി; ദൂതന്മാർ അടുത്തുവന്നു അവനെ ശുശ്രൂഷിച്ചു.
